We are delighted to have you visit the Asian-Oceanian Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (AOSIN) webpage. Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (INOM) is becoming increasingly important in the management of patients worldwide, as we continue to see countries in various stages of adopting guidelines requiring the use these procedures. It has generated greater interest amongst surgeons, physicians, neurophysiologists, technical staff, anesthesiologists, or any healthcare worker involved in the planning and implementation of surgery.

The scope IONM has widened to include surgery beyond the nervous system, and not limited to otolaryngological procedures, brachial plexus, musculoskeletal, pain and cardiovascular surgical indications. Hence, the term intraoperative monitoring (IOM) would encompass this expanded scope of involving complementary radiological, neurovascular and computational techniques at the pre, intra and postsurgical stages. This, in effect, has justified reappraisal of risk-benefit, medico-legal, safety and credentialing issues academically and operationally.

To that end, AOSIN has partnered various professional bodies with the aim of ensuring better surgical safety going forward. Apart from the recently concluded 5th AOSIN Congress 2023 in Taipei, we look forward to participation in future conferences organized by the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN), World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) and the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN). It will serve to promote the identity of AOSIN as an organization committed to the education, research and advancement of IONM.
